Recent and continuing experience in the Federal market mainly for the Department of Defense. Also the Veterans Administration. Expert in interpreting the UFC's and using the UFGS specifications. Maintain a template for thorough Design Analysis.
Preliminary Charrette Reports (PCR) - site investigations; on-site discussions with users and other disciplines; Out-Brief report; more research and communication; Final PCR.
Independent Technical Review (ITR) - Required by the fed. Typically using a Bluebeam session. Use the "status" function to verify errors are corrected. All discipline review for the team to see - IT'S A GREAT COMMUNICATION TOOL!
Other Industries
Most career projects have been in Retail where the DEADLINE is MOST IMPORTANT. Therefore, maintain procedures for fast, quality and consistent defendable design.
Turnkey performance if AutoCAD is acceptable - Drawings, specifications, energy calculations, defend design for building permit, discuss cost saving methods with owner.
Also experience in Healthcare, Financial (Banks and Credit Unions), and Hotels.
NO EXPERIENCE IN INDUSTRIAL, but it's all about the same, would not pass up an opportunity to work/learn at my expense.
Electrical calculations
Quickly estimate building load based on square footage, required interrupting capacity of distribution systems, upsizing of feeders and branch circuits due to voltage drop.
What are we talking about here?
- SITE - bring power into building; coordinate with utility; layout site lighting and run photometric calculations.
- LIGHTING - layout lighting; run photometric calculations; layout and detail lighting controls to conform to energy codes.
- DEVICES - can be provided, but it's pretty simple. Much more economical to describe to a designer and check the work.
- DISTRIBUTION - One-line diagram in AutoCAD with calculations for interrupting capacity and voltage drop.
- DETAILS/SCHEDULES ETC. - Use excel as much as possible; library of details/schematics.
CAD work
Expert in AutoCAD (turnkey). No expertise in Revit - will need support on Revit jobs.
Mentorship
Years of experience working with young engineers/designers.
